I couldn't help myself when I heard about the Knoxville shootings this morning ... I had to try and find out more about the shooter. I ran a quick Google of the name "Jim Adkisson" and specifically sought out older things that were NOT related to this weekend's tragedy. Here's what I found ...

There are a few diaries from early in the Foley-gate news flood proposing that ABC's role in breaking the story might be evidence that the whole thing is a Rove plot. After all, Disney-ABC is clearly deep in the pockets of the GOP since they aired the slanderous Path to 9-11 crockumentary.

I find that pretty hard to believe. Even if this was initially intended as a distraction, it seems pretty clear that the way this story is developing is out of anyone's control and completely toxic to the GOP.

Okay, I could use a little help here.

I'm a folk musician in Gulfport, MS, and I've got a gig tomorrow night at a local Irish Pub. It occurred to me that it would be fun to write new verses for the old folk song "Cindy" referring to Camp Casey and sing them at the show.

Not long after I wrote a few, I quickly realized that the Daily Kos crew could probably do this even better. So I invite additional verses to this ditty, sung to the tune of "Cindy."

It is often said (usually in business seminars)  that the Chinese represent the words "crisis" and "opportunity" with the same Kanji character.

It's also inaccurate.

But there is a deeper truth underlying this linguistic urban legend: new and important things tend to come to prominence on the shoulders of upheaval.
